About Rossano Cariello

Composer | UK

A Scottish composer from Edinburgh, Rossano Cariello studied at the University of Edinburgh gaining a degree with Honours as Bachelor of Music and winning an award for his final year dissertation on early music in 2017. As a contemporary composer, Rossano delves into different styles of music and, having won a scholarship for postgraduate study, has successfully completed a Masters degree in Composition for Screen to develop his film-music craft.
Picking up piano at an early age, Rossano’s proficiency in the instrument led to his interest in music, studying under lecturer Neil Metcalfe at Edinburgh College and later at the University of Edinburgh, where his interest for early music inspired his stylistic composition studies under Dr Noel O’Regan, together with contemporary composition under Professor Peter Nelson. Further study with composer Yati Durant in his Masters year has cemented this interest allowing him to develop skills in mixing and widening his compositional approach to include a greater sensibility to the use of sound.
External to his practice of piano, Rossano was a keen choral singer with the University Choir for which he wrote and took part in a choral composition, Videntes Stellam, in the choir’s summer concert of 2016. He continues to develop his musical style with both early and contemporary practices in mind and recently enrolled in a traineeship via ERASMUS, in the Conservatorio Francesco-Venezze in Rovigo, with composer Marco Biscarini, through which he has further developed his ability to compose for film.
