About Steve Canfield

Steve Canfield aka Steve Other is a composer, producer and sound designer from San Diego, California. Currently, he is working as the composer for the upcoming Mayhem Mirror Studios video game CRETE under the direction of Álvaro García Martínez (Ready Player One, Avengers: Infinity War, The Seed of Juna). Canfield composed thematic orchestral music for Jonny Santana’s Just Another Tuesday followed by an original soundtrack for Spill Milk and Cry, lending the film its distinct, synth-driven atmosphere, reminiscent of John Carpenter, Vangelis, Geoff Barrow and Wendy Carlos. Following Santana’s breakout projects, Canfield created sound design and musical ambience for actor/director Brendan McCarthy (of True Blood and FX’s Primetime Emmy Award-winning series Justified) in his short films A Gunman’s Hand and The Law of the Land, starring Don Harvey.

Canfield’s compositions are conceived in a meditative dream state, then refined until they achieve the precise emotional gravity that the project demands. The results speak for themselves: dark, evocative soundscapes that elevate film to the liminal language of the ineffable.

Canfield’s solo musical career (under his monikers, Steve Other, Otherr, and Sleeve) includes eight EPs and two full-length albums and international bookings in cultural hubs including Berlin, Rome, Mexico City, and Budapest. He has performed at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival (2019) and shared the stage with Idris Elba at Los Angeles’ world-famous Low End Theory beat showcase. As co-owner of San Diego’s renowned electronic label Liquid Geometry, Canfield oversaw the release of 25 albums from international artists and co-hosted hundreds of events featuring acclaimed musicians such as Lorn, Austin Peralta, and Eureka the Butcher (The Mars Volta).
