For over 20 years, Tom Hambleton, owner of Undertone Music, Inc., has honed the craft of sonic storytelling, bringing world-class composition, sound design, post-production editing and mixing skills to all genres of film and television. He is known for his “boundless creativity” and ability to bring any production to a new level of professionalism and power. As Charles Maynes, (U-571, Spiderman, Flags of Our Fathers, Fantastic 4) said, “Tom is a guy who always approaches things in a unique and clever way- His insights into sound are truly World Class”. Tom has an uncanny knack for finding the “sweet spot of music and sound design”—organic and startling metaphoric connections between the visual and auditory worlds that create lushly storied sound-scapes.
His work on internationally-released and award-winning films has screened from Cannes to Sundance to Melbourne to The Smithsonian to Showtime to Redbox and Netflix and everywhere in between. In 2007 he taught master classes in sound and music for film at the Imago Festival in Portugal, and Fantoche in Switzerland. Undertone is equipped with the Midwest’s only Dolby-approved Dub Stage for film, allowing clients to review their projects with a full theatrical experience. Though based in Minneapolis, MN, some of Tom’s many clients are in Chicago, Seattle, LA, Amsterdam, and Paris.
