About Bryan Heany

Field recordist | 37.ENT LLC | USA | Michigan

I am a sound engineer and musician with over 20 years experience as a performer, studio recording engineer, editor, and mixer. I have assisted with the recording, editing, and mastering of over 1000 concerts as staff engineer for Western Sound Studio at Western Michigan University. I am a PA system owner/operator and have worked with some of the top names in jazz and classical music via Fontana Chamber Arts, the Gilmore International Keyboard Festival, and Western Michigan University. I am the lucky engineer of Delfeayo Marsalis’ latest record, though sadly the last with his father, Ellis Marsalis (A Night in Kalamazoo). I have handled the transfer of over 1000 reel-to-reel tapes to digital formats, and am adding to a growing list of over 50 VHS tape transfers for Western Michigan University Libraries and the Kalamazoo Valley Museum. I still play my drums at least a few times a week and can produce multi-track drum recordings from my home-based project studio. I am adept with all kinds of rock and pop drum styles, and infuse my playing with jazz and improvised flourishes. I am currently active with a surf rock band (Guitar UP!) and lead my own group (37.ENT “The Ents”). In Feb.2020 I completed a Master’s degree in communication. I focused on theory related to interpersonal relationships within the audio production work flow. I love to talk through projects to plan accordingly, and help educate amateur musicians, engineers, and producers on the workflow at points throughout the process.
