About James White
Composer | Stopwatch Studios | UKJames is an English media composer, orchestrator, music producer and music technologist. He has knowledge in many areas of music, spanning from traditional music theory and performance, through to in depth details of music technology, (our advice, don’t bring up the topic of microphones when he’s around).
James plays trumpet, guitar, piano and his trusted MIDI keyboard as well as sings. He plays in a variety of bands such as Big Bands, Jazz groups and Orchestras, as well as Indie/Pop bands, meaning he has a wide range of musical experiences that can be heard in his compositions. He has written for several short films and student projects.
He has worked with the London School of Economics writing a promotional video campaign that was broadcast worldwide as well as saw worked with the BBC natural history department as part of his educational program, collaborating with the BBC’s producers to help establish a new direction for the natural history music.
James is influenced by many composers such as the well-known Thomas Newman, John Barry and Harry Gregson-Williams. But also composers such as Gustavo Santaolalla, stating “his ability to create such deep emotions through such simple ideas and sparse scores is amazing”. His favourite composer is Michael Giacchino because “The Incredibles soundtrack is possibly the best soundtrack ever written, but then I’m a brass player so I’m biased”.
Aside from running Stopwatch Studios and all the music, James loves his Motorsport. A kart racer, and avid Mclaren F1 fan, you’ll find him in front of any screen when it’s a race weekend!
