About Elmer Ho Lok Zhan

Elmer is a Composer and Audio Director hailing from Malaysia who specializes in Film and Game music. He started music at a young age of 3 with MusicKids from Yamaha course. At the age of seven, he started taking up Electone and at the age of 9 he took up the Electric Guitar. Elmer first started to compose and arrange music at the age of 12 after being inspired by various films and games. At the age of 14 he took up Vocal lessons to further improve his musical skills. At the same time, he went out to collect field experience in teaching and shows starting out by teaching in church and soon moved to music centers. Blessed with Synesthesia, he interprets music as colours, which leads him to write colourful pieces suitable for mediums with sceneries. Having musical experience, Elmer entered UCSI University starting out as a Guitar major but later switched to Composition under the guidance of Lim Hoong Bee and Lee Hwa Young. He also minored in Contemporary Piano and was the Bass Section leader of the UCSI Concert Choir which performed Mahler’s Symphony Resurrection with the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra conducted by Benjamin Zander. In the last year of his studies, he took up an Internship at a post-production studio called Imaginex Studios, where he spent some time learning Sound Design and Foley. He also judged a talent competition for Eco Night Sekolah Sri Bestari, singing competition at Yokohama International School and gave workshops at UCSI University. Elmer has worked as a Digital Media Producer at Dagmusic Roppongi, Tokyo where he mixes audio for artists and designs new media for the company while simultaneously personally handling compositions for various projects. Being at Tokyo, he frequented YouTube Space and local gigs where he got acquainted with the local scene.
After returning to Malaysia he is with soundtrec and VGO working on various projects such as Level Up KL 2017 and various other game projects. He works hand in hand with universities and independent groups such as TeenEdge where he gives talks and workshops relating to music, production and self-help/motivation. He also consults for international companies like UJAM instruments as well as entities such as MDEC for industry grade quality control. He then founded his own companies MediBeats Productions, Violets Technologies and Team Comfy VT to further expand on the entertainment sector.
