About Dave Chan

Sound designer | Giant Sandbox Games | Canada

I have always had an interest in computers and audio. One of the first major purchases I made as a
teenager was a Roland synthesizer so that I could experiment with sound and music. After high school
and some university, I decided to take an audio production course to further my interests. Using that
knowledge, I created a job at a local computer store by convincing the store owner to partner with a
local music shop. After many years working and finally managing that computer store, I decided to
expand my horizons and obtain a Microsoft certification. At the same time I was taking my certification I
helped start a LAN event known as Fragapalooza. I invited the owners of BioWare (then a relative
unknown) to demonstrate Baldur’s Gate at the event. Ray Muzyka, one of the founders, was impressed
with the job I had done for Fragapalooza, so when I finally got my Microsoft certification, I ended up
working at BioWare in the IT department. The owners were aware of my audio background and offered
me a chance to make placeholder sounds for MDK2. They liked the sound so much they wanted me to
do the whole game. The rest, as they say, is history
