AboutSound designer | Martz Sound & Music, LLC | USA | Washington
I’m Michael! I’m a sound designer and composer for games.
I’m originally from Seattle, WA, but in 2016 I moved to Chicago to study sound and music at Columbia College Chicago. I earned a Bachelor of Science in Music Technology there, and am now returning to Washington to focus on game audio.
Like a lot of sound designers, I have a musical background. As a kid, I played piano and trumpet in all of my school music groups, and played jazz music in coffee shops with my friends. I eventually found that composing was far more rewarding to me than performing, and looked at it as a potential career path. It was a slippery slope from there to sound design, and now I do both!
I’m a programmer, too! C++ is my primary language, but I’m also familiar with a variety of others. I’m fairly knowledgeable about popular game engines and game engine architectures, and I’m currently in the middle of developing my own game engine, Enterprise.
I enjoy the craftsmanship and artistry that goes into game-making, and love collaborating with cool teams to make cool things. I’m always happy to share my audio knowledge with my friends and colleagues, and eager to learn about the other aspects of game design. In my opinion, the best things come from close-knit teams, and working with a talented, passionate one really gets me out of bed in the morning.
I’m a huge fan of coffee, dogs, mountains, and Key lime pie.
