Contract Sound Designer
Company: Millions of Monsters
Location: Remote
Job description

Founded in 2023, Millions of Monsters is all about game design innovation. We’re inspired by games that raise the bar on gameplay, and we’re wiring ourselves to be able to quickly discover innovative game ideas and successfully bring them to market. We’re funded by all-star investors. Our team is highly passionate & enjoys working hard on games that inspire us!

Our first game is an innovative PC FTP PvP strategy game inspired by classic chess, and it has shown very positive results in early community playtesting. The game is based on a new fantasy IP we’re creating

We’re now looking for a great sound designer who loves PvP/fantasy to start helping us bring the game to life through SFX and music!

What you will achieve

You’ll be involved in all things sound.

Primary responsibilities:
  • Work with game design & creative to understand the goals for sound from end-to-end. Be an active thought partner in shaping the role of sound in all aspects of the game (SFX, music), including how we should think about the sound hierarchy across many layers of sound in our game
  • Iteratively refine our sound vision based on rapid testing of various sound approaches in all aspects of the game
  • Help drive game feel for core mechanics — work closely with VFX/animation team to make all game mechanics clear and satisfying. Our core mechanics are innovative and require exploration to make them feel great
  • Create overall ambience with SFX/music
  • Implement & balance sounds directly in Unity engine. You will need to work with engineers regardless (e.g., to identify needed sound keys)
What will make you successful
  • Think like a game developer, not only a sound designer— understand how and when different types of sound should be used to support the overall player experience
  • Love PvP games and understand what they need from a sound/game feel POV
  • Scrappiness and iteration speed – move really quickly to make initial versions of sounds, try them out, and refine our understanding quickly
  • Getting in engine (Unity) is a big plus to implement
  • Understand fantasy soundscapes
What we offer
  • Hourly rate negotiable based on experience
  • Working hours negotiable based on availability
