Temporary Junior Audio Designer

Job description

BioWare creates games focused on rich stories, unforgettable characters and vast worlds. It operates primarily out of Edmonton (Alberta, CAN) and Austin (Texas, USA) creating some of the world's most critically acclaimed titles since 1995. The studio is currently working on future game experiences for the Mass Effect™ franchise, one of the highest rated video game series of all time, and the Dragon Age™ franchise, whose latest entry was the 2014 Game of the Year.

The Junior Audio Designer will report to the Technical Audio Supervisor. This is a 6 month temporary position.

Responsibilities:
  • Create builds for testing and troubleshooting
  • Create and execute test plans for testing out audio features
  • Work with the development team to understand the game systems to file effective bugs
  • Provide qualitative feedback on audio design and implementation
  • Report on bugs including communicating across multiple departments on issues and their status
  • Reporting on testing and QA activities to the leadership in weekly production meetings
  • Troubleshoot and help fix audio bugs
Qualifications:
  • At least 1 year industry experience
  • Experience with audio middleware or game engine implementation is a plus.
  • Understanding of the fundamentals of working with digital audio with the ability to edit, mix and create audio content for various forms of media
  • An understanding of the entire audio process, including sound effects, voice over, music, mixing and middleware implementation.
  • Familiarity with Wwise, Fmod, or similar authoring environment
  • A grasp of programming fundamentals as they apply to scripting dynamic audio is a bonus.
  • Experience assessing issues and formulating creative solutions, whether design or technical.
  • A passion for video games and understanding of the role that audio plays in the player experience.

The hourly rate is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborate with UX Design to create sounds for our new game!
  • Follow a schedule and submit work within required deadlines in partnership with production.
  • Contribute to the design and implementation of sound effects to immerse the player into the game’s world.
  • Research and benchmark games within similar styles for audio and sound effects reference.
  • Adapt sounds based on feedback from UX Design

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Minimum of two years game audio and/or post-production experience.
  • Proven experience as a sound designer, preferably with a focus on mobile gaming.
