In this position, you will define and implement the audio vision for our projects, ensuring it complements the overall game design. Working closely with Game Directors, you will ensure that the audio direction aligns with the broader game strategy, creating a cohesive and immersive experience for players.
You will also be responsible for managing relationships with external partners involved in audio and music production.
RESPONSIBILITIES- Lead the audio team by providing clear guidance on the audio vision and ensuring everyone is on the same page.
- Supervise, create and integrate diverse audio elements, working alongside audio designers from the initial concept phase through to the final mix.
- Collaborate with Game Directors and Producers to align the audio strategy with the game’s overall direction and long-term goals.
- Work with programmers to explore and implement innovative audio technologies.
- Identify and assess the team’s needs for audio tools and resources, assuring that the project is well-equipped to meet its goals.
- Bachelor’s degree in sound design, music, game design, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional audio experience within the gaming industry.
- Demonstrated success in bringing a game from concept to launch.
- Proficiency with FMOD and Unity or Unreal Engine (or similar pipeline).
- Deep knowledge of sound design, dialogue, music, and mixing in a game development context.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.

As the Lead Sound Designer/Composer, you will manage the audio team
directing the design, development, and implementation of all sound and
music for Nintendo Software Technology. You will work closely with
senior level management to create and execute contributing to cross
organizational initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a background
in music composition, the ability to create sound effects for games, and
a willingness to learn and adapt to NST’s style.
- Leads the creation and implementation of music and audio for NST’s products.
- Coordinates and directs audio team members to determine the audio direction for NST’s products.
- Develops production plans and workflows for working with outside audio production vendors.
- Works with counterparts at NCL to ensure audio quality that meets Nintendo product standards.
- Approves all sound design for NST’s products, including music, sound effects, and voice recordings developed both internally and through external vendors as appropriate.
- Develops and reviews timelines and resource projections for audio production with other managers.
- Composes, arranges, and produces original music for NST’s products.
- Optimizes audio team’s workflow in coordination with designers, artists, and software engineers.
- Works with other managers at NST to improve game production pipelines.
- Recommends hardware and software technology systems for audio production.
- Applies professional expertise to review, analyze and test products under development as a contributing member of a production team to ensure delivery of Nintendo’s high standard of quality and timeliness.
- 10-15 years’ experience in music and audio production and software development.
- In-depth knowledge of principles and practices of music theory and audio production for software development.
- Proven proficiency with current commercial audio production tools.
- Prior experience with audio production management including managing audio production personnel.
- Analytical skills to plan and develop NST’s audio production capabilities.
- Ability to formulate strategies and develop policies in terms of audio productions.
- Undergraduate degree in music production or audio engineering.
- Advanced degree or additional certification in music or audio production a plus
This position is hybrid in Redmond, WA. Hybrid positions require regular onsite work following the schedule and guidelines for their division. This position is not open to fully remote status at this time.
This position includes a base salary range of $$127,972 – $191,958
annually, potential for a semi-annual discretionary performance bonus,

Elsewhere is hiring an Audio Lead to help bring our world to life through sound. We’re working on a co-op multiplayer game that captures the aesthetic and soul of indie games, the replayability and depth of roguelikes, and the ambition to become a forever game that reaches millions of players.
You’ll own the entire audio experience of our game, crafting an immersive soundscape that elevates every moment of gameplay. From the satisfying crunch of combat to the ambient atmosphere that makes our world feel alive, you’ll work closely with our founder and game design team to ensure that sound is a core pillar of the player experience.
Our team works in-person out of a beautiful converted industrial space in the Mission District here in San Francisco, CA. Being located in the area is a big plus, but not strictly necessary.
This position is for an ongoing contract. Initial work will be about 10-20 hrs/week depending on business needs. If things go well, more work or perhaps a full-time role are possible.Your Profile:
- You’ve shipped at least one game (indie or AAA) and can point to specific audio elements you owned from concept to completion.
- You have experience doing audio design for multiplayer games and taking into account that players might be on voice chat while they play.
- You’re an expert in Wwise (or FMOD) and have experience implementing dynamic audio systems in game engines like Godot, Unity or Unreal.
- You’re comfortable working with version control (git) and understand how to organize and maintain audio assets in a game project.
- You have a keen ear for sound design and can create original audio assets as well as thoughtfully curate from existing libraries.
- You’re skilled at mixing and understand how to balance different audio elements to create a cohesive soundscape.
- You’re collaborative and excited to work with high-profile music composers while owning the overall audio integration.
- You have experience working with voice actors and adding voice over to games, including thinking about localization.
