Audio Design Intern – Undergraduate

Job description

Are you passionate about creating immersive audio for video games? Insomniac Games is seeking an Audio Design Intern who is eager to learn all aspects of game audio production. If you’re interested in pursuing a career in game audio and want to develop your skills in sound design, editing, implementation, and fine-tuning audio during the development process, this is the opportunity for you!

What You’ll Be Doing:
  • Design and create sound effects.
  • Assist with dialogue editing, processing, and stub dialogue recording.
  • Prepare audio materials for use in games, including mapping sound effects and attaching them to animations using proprietary tools.
  • Script sound effects in Wwise and other internal tools.
  • Work closely with senior members of the Audio team, receiving mentorship and guidance throughout the internship.
What We’re Looking For:
  • Currently enrolled in an accredited university, pursuing an Undergraduate degree in Audio Production, Recording, or Engineering (preferably in the game development field)
  • Projected to graduate by Spring 2026.
  • Passionate about video games and have a solid understanding of what makes them engaging and fun.
  • Knowledge of audio production, editing, and mastering is required, along with familiarity with software like Pro Tools or Sound Forge.
  • Experience in field recording, microphone setups, dialogue editing, sound effect creation, and post-processing is a plus.
  • Experience with Wwise or other audio middleware solutions is highly preferred.
Eligibility:
  • Able to work during one of the following periods: May 19th – August 8th or June 16th – September 5th.
  • Must be available for the entire 12-week internship period.
  •  Relocation assistance is available for eligible candidates.

What You’ll Do

Epic Games Harmonix is looking for an Audio Design intern to join us to help bring new musical experiences to Fortnite. This role is a great opportunity for sound design, music creation, and learning how to build interactive music experiences.

In this role, you will
  • Learn how to take sound design and music from inception to release in Fornite Festival Main Stage, Battle Stage and Jam Stage
  • Collaborate with a broad set of the Harmonix and Fortnite teams to create and test new musical experiences
  • Work with the Patchwork team in dreaming up new ideas for interactive music
  • Play and test Main Stage, Battle Stage, and Jam Stage and have Patchwork Jams with the team
  • Gain a deeper understanding of UE, UEFN in the context of all things Audio
What we’re looking for
  • A desire to learn as much as possible
  • Proficiency in at least one DAW (Ableton, Reaper, Nuendo, Pro Tools, etc)
  • Openness to giving and receiving feedback
  • Curiosity and willingness to ask questions
  • Basic understanding of game audio development (Sound Design, Music Production, Unreal Game Engine, Source Control)
  • A love of modular synthesis and interactive music experiences

Are you a quick learning, self-starter looking for a fun challenge and a great team to collaborate with? Sucker Punch is searching for a Sound Implementer to assist our team in implementing audio in game. Candidates should have a strong foundational understanding of game engines and various methodologies for adding sounds to games.
