Responsibilities
  • Create sound effects using custom recordings and library material to generate original audio.
  • Design, create, edit, convert, implement and manage large volumes of audio content
  • Responsibility for several audio sub disciplines (e.g. Environmental audio, physics audio etc.) Creative autonomy around these areas shall be given to candidate
  • Responsibility for audio output of studio, acting as an audio resource for all media that need sound work
  • Audio play-testing (on target platforms) and audio quality assurance. Identifying, prioritizing, reporting and resolving audio bugs/issues
What kind of professional are we looking for?
  • At least 2 years of games industry experience – Technical expertise using Wwise.
  • Creativity and inventive with the use source material
  • Good communication and problem solving skills – Meeting production deadlines and schedules.
  • Working effectively and using experience and knowledge to improve interactions between audio and other disciplines
  • Code implementation skills

The Townshend Studio at UWL

The Townshend Studio, at the University of West London, is a vibrant creative space dedicated to learning, collaboration, experimentation, and play. Inspired by the musical and artistic legacy of Ealing, the studio promotes and encourages creative practice for all. It houses a unique collection of rare and vintage synthesisers on loan from Pete Townshend, co-founder of The Who and an alumnus of the Ealing School of Art (now UWL).

The Role

The University of West London is thrilled to announce our Artist in Residence Programme at the Townshend Studio! This is your chance to immerse yourself in a creative environment, collaborate with fellow artists, and make your mark in the music world.

This role is a full time, 2 months fixed-term residency within The Townshend Studios. If you are interested in any other residency dates please state within your cover letter which residencies you would like to be considered for.

Please note: Accommodation is not included; this is a studio-only residency.

Deliverables:
  • Create at least one full track.
  • Record and share production process videos. – Conduct two workshops or live performances.
  • Regular social media updates.
  • Promote the residency programme.
  • Provide a thank you message to the donor.
Residency Length: 2 months per artist

2025 residency dates:
  • 1. January – February
  • 2. March – April
  • 3. May – June
  • 4. July – August
  • 5. September – October
  • 6. November – December

Please state your preferred residency dates in your cover letter.

Salary Details
  • £4,200 before tax for the two-month programme.

Qualifications
  • Demonstrated creative and technical achievements in sound design.
  • Fluency in game audio implementation systems.
  • Knowledge of immersive audio formats such as Ambisonics. – Experience in game audio scripting or other relevant programming environments.
  • Understanding of PS5, XBox Series X, and PC audio functionality, capabilities, and limitations.
  • Experience with major digital audio workstations, and power-user of at least one.
  • Solid understanding of technical audio theory and audio engineering. – Excellent interpersonal communication skills.
  • Exceptional organization skills.
  • College degree preferred.
  • Continuing Education Certificate, Professional or advanced degree in audio engineering, music, or similar preferred.
Bonus Points
  • Game development accomplishments outside of audio.

Radical Forge is a Middlesbrough, UK-based developer that has provided co-development services on a range of AAA and indie titles. In 2021, the company created its first original IP, ‘Brightpaw’, which Rogue Games published on PC, Nintendo Switch, Xbox One/Series S/X, Google, and iOS. The studio is currently working on the much-anticipated silly, physics-based, sandbox farming game, ‘Southfield’.

Since its beginnings in 2017, the company has grown to over 60 incredibly talented, collaborative, and creative individuals. We are the sum of our skills, passion, and, most of all, our people. Your Mission
  • Architect and implement audio systems and features from the ground up in our new engine
  • Refine systems throughout the development cycle of the project
  • Collaborate with sound designers, artists, designers and other engineers for feature development
  • Code to clearly defined performance and memory usage specs

  • Familiarity with Wwise audio middleware
  • 5+ years of software development experience
  • Robust programming skills/experience in C++
