Responsibilities
  • In charge of conducting the overall Soundscape and the mix of our games based on the Audio Vision.
  • Translate the Vision into the Soundscape – the result our players will hear when playing our games.
  • Design and use interactive mixing systems to create the Soundscape of the Game.
  • Collaborate and align with the Technical Audio team.
  • Ensure the loudness standards and TRCs for all platforms are met.
  • Support all Endpoints.
  • Support and train some of our more junior Soundscape Designers.
  • Report and support the Audio Producer by estimating tasks and working and communicating correctly in Jira
  • Communicate with all other Audio Department team members to achieve the best results for the Soundscape.
Requirements
  • Full project loop as a Sound Designer, Technical Sound Designer or Mixing Engineer on a AAA title.

  • Solid understanding of the Game Audio pipeline from Asset to Soundscape
  • Solid general audio production knowledge: how assets are created, mixed and mastered

We are looking for a Sound Designer to join our Audio team! As a Sound Designer within the Internal New Games team at Mojang, you will work with creating and implementing audio assets in a game, such as environments, mobs and more. You will also be collaborating with the game team to make sure that the audio in the game fits within the Minecraft brand.

We value unique, high-quality sounds, which means that most of our audio assets are recorded by conducting field and studio recordings. In other words, if we need a dolphin sound – we go visit the dolphins!

Your Tasks Will Include
  • Contributing to all aspects of sound design- Recording original sounds
  • Creating high quality audio assets for in-game use- Implementing sound effects, sometimes in collaboration with an Audio Programmer
  • Working under the leadership of an Audio Director and communicating and collaborating with leadership and project teams to implement a game’s auditory vision
  • Communicating, collaborating and creatively working with everyone on the product, for example, game designers, artists, producers and developers
  • Actively participating in planning, prioritisation, time estimation, and pipeline development, and document your work and processes as needed
  • A sense of fun and being able to think laterally – creating sounds, especially for the Minecraft universe, requires creativity and imagination
  • Creating the best audio experience for our players and on ensuring to follow creative visions and guidelines for Minecraft
We Believe You Have Some Of The Following Qualifications
  • Good knowledge of modern audio equipment, recording techniques, microphones and industry standard audio tools (Reaper, Wwise, Unreal Engine 5, plug-ins, middleware, hardware)
  • Experience working professionally with sound design in the games industry
  • Self-organized planning, problem solving and executing of daily tasks
  • Tangible experience (such as shipped titles and personal body of work) related to the role
  • Experience adapting and stylizing an auditory experience to fit a brand

Job Description
  1. Develop and manage the overall sound design direction for action game production, creating sound elements that align with the project’s themes and characters.

  2. Collaborate closely with the sound design and music production teams to oversee the design and implementation of in-game music, sound effects, character voices, and environmental sounds.

  3. Manage quality and production schedules to provide an optimal audio experience that meets project requirements.

  4. Conduct final sound checks and quality assurance, coordinating with other departments and external partners as needed.

Requirements
  1. Over 5 years of experience in sound direction within the gaming industry, with a proven track record in sound design and implementation for action games.

  2. Proficiency in sound design and audio engineering, with expertise in DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) and various audio editing software.

  3. Strong project management and team management skills, with the ability to coordinate with other teams.

  4. Proficiency in Japanese and English communication, or a willingness to learn.

We are Grinding Gear Games, creators of the award-winning dark fantasy Action RPG Path of Exile. We’re a world-class studio of more than 180 world-class developers based in Auckland, New Zealand and we’re currently expanding the Path of Exile 2 development team.

We seek Experienced Sound Designers to join our incredibly talented team.

Location: On-site in Henderson, Auckland, New Zealand

Relocation assistance (for the right candidate, if needed)

Full time position – 40 hours a week

This position includes the following duties:
  • Design dark and gritty sound effects from concept to implementation
  • Create audio using a firm grasp of engineering practices, including recording techniques
  • Work side-by-side with other departments to create the highest quality audio and maintain artistic consistency and expectations set by the studio
  • Attend regular team meetings, providing updated status and progress of your deliverables
We are seeking someone with:
  • 3 years experience in audio for games or 5+ years experience in a related field (studio work or film/television) OR have a relevant bachelor’s degree in Music Production
  • Experience with Pro Tools, Reaper or equivalent DAW
  • Experience with FMOD or other audio engine tools
  • Self-motivation and self-reliance; ability to research and learn new tools quickly
  • Excellent communication skills, and able to work within a team
  • Passion for creating ‘dark and gritty’ sounds

Portfolio, and/or reel demonstrating relevant skills required.

Must be willing to complete a test if requested to do so.
