Unreal Sound Artist
Company: Tigerroll Studios
Location: Remote
Job description

The Freeblades is a Multiplayer Co-op Dungeon-Adventure RPG set in a gritty, low-fantasy medieval world. Following a great war, an uneasy truce holds, but the lands are plagued by bandits, magical cults, and tribal monsters. Players join the notorious Free Blades Company a powerful mercenary guild modeled after the historical East India Trading Company taking on dangerous contracts to bring order to a fractured land, for the right price.

With a dark, realistic tone inspired by Game of Thrones , souls-like combat reminiscent of Elden Ring , and the mercenary fantasy of The Witcher 3. This is a passion project that has been in development for over 8 years. We are now looking for a key team member to help us push towards our alpha release.

About the Role

This is more than a standard sound design role; something closer to a technical audio gameplay artisan rather than a traditional composer . We have a working sound implementation, but we believe audio is a core pillar of the player experience, and we need an expert to give it the magic it deserves. Your mission will be to dive deep into our Unreal Engine project and build a soundscape that feels truly alive. You will have the autonomy to make high-impact decisions, working directly in-engine to create systems where the audio is intrinsically linked to gameplay.

We want you to leverage the full power of Unreal Engine’s audio middleware. Imagine a door whose creak is dynamically driven by its opening speed, or an ability whose sound builds in intensity based on charge time all authored directly in MetaSound assets. You will be responsible for crafting these moments, from the visceral punch of combat to the subtle, atmospheric cues that build our world. Your deliverables will be fully implemented gameplay sections where the audio is not just present, but is a core part of the experience.

Who We’re Looking For: Core Requirements

We’re looking for an autonomous and passionate developer who thrives in a creative, fast-paced environment.

  • At least 3+ years of professional, paid experience working with other creative projects
  • A strong portfolio demonstrating expertise in game audio design and, crucially, in-engine implementation.
  • Proven, hands-on experience with Unreal Engine’s audio systems, including authoring MetaSounds using gameplay input data.
  • A deep understanding of how to create sound that serves gameplay, providing clear feedback and enhancing player immersion.
  • Ability to work autonomously and take creative ownership, working from high-level guidance to deliver polished results.
  • A great ear for impactful, emotive sound design you know when to use deep bass, when to use silence, and how to make an event feel powerful.
Nice-to-Haves
  • Experience with other game audio middleware (e.g., FMOD, Wwise) is a plus, but deep Unreal Engine knowledge is the priority.
  • A passion for Dark RPGs and action/horror games, and an understanding of the audio conventions of the genre.
  • Experience with creating sound effects from scratch using samples and layers
  • Familiarity with the sound design of games like Hunt: Showdown or other titles known for their atmospheric and impactful audio.
  • Shared Interest with Relevant Audio References

    • Sound Re-Design – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7WXKlCmOtVI
    • Hunt: Showdown Main Menu Theme Tune – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kvd5Mrjq3jc
    • Elden Ring, Boss Phase Transition – https://youtu.be/LQ2vW_CTuAM?t=99
The Offer: Why Join Us?

This is a unique opportunity to make a huge impact on a passion-driven project.

  • Flexibility: We offer fully flexible working hours and a 100% remote setup. We trust you to deliver great work, not to watch a clock.
  • Creative Ownership: As a core member of a small team, your ideas will be heard and your work will directly shape the final game.
  • A Great Environment: Join a small, friendly, and supportive team that is focused on building a fantastic game without the pressures of corporate development.
  • Technical Challenge: You’ll get to sink your teeth into a complex and technically challenging project, working with many different parts of the engine.
A Note On Our Indie Culture

We believe in transparency. This is a true indie project, which comes with a unique set of opportunities and challenges. The project is led by a developer who also has a separate full-time job, meaning check-ins can sometimes be irregular. This role is perfect for a self-directed individual who values autonomy. While the compensation is competitive for an indie studio, it may not match AAA salaries. We are looking for someone who is motivated by a passion for the project and the opportunity to build something special.

Logistics & Compensation
  • Role: Full-Time Contract
  • Duration: Initial 3-6 month contract, with a strong possibility for extension.
  • Compensation: We offer a flexible and competitive compensation structure based on the candidate’s experience and skill level. To ensure we respect your time, we ask that you please state your expected compensation rate in the application form.
How to Apply

We do not have an active recruitment compaign for this position at this time. You are welcome to submit an expression of interest via the application form below, which will remain open before and during the active campaign.

Primary candidate evaluation will be based on the quality of your most-impressive example in your portfolio. For the best chance of your application consideration, we would strongly recommend this is given your highest attention priority!
