THE ROLE:
Working closely with the Audio Director and Production Manager you will:
  • Closely collaborate with the audio director, game director and design team
  • Design and develop runtime vocal FX processes, human and creature
  • Design and develop animation linked procedural dialogue systems
  • Edit, master, implement, oversee cinematic quality dialogue
  • Work closely with external vendors and studios

Job description

You will be part of the Bordeaux studio and join the production team of one of our flagship franchises. As part of the AAA project's Audio team, you will be responsible for the development and optimization of the game's audio engine.

In this context, your tasks will include:
  • Be the project main technical contact for the integration of the game's sound, from pre-production to delivery,
  • Integrate, maintain and optimize the Wwise audio middleware in our game engine,
  • Develop audio related features in partnership with the game designers and sound designers,
  • Collaborate with the technical sound designers for the development of plug-ins and interfaces for the audio engine,
  • Support the audio debugging of the game.
  • You have a degree in programming (engineering school, university or equivalent), and you have a first significant experience in engine or gameplay programming in the video game industry, ideally on audio issues,
  • You have excellent knowledge of C++ and object-oriented programming,
  • You know the constraints of real time programming, memory management and multithreading,
  • You are interested in sound and audio in general,

WHO YOU ARE

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of experience working on a narrative, non-fiction podcast. We’re looking for someone with a demonstrated ability to identify and structure a surprising story. You know your way around editing software – preferably Pro Tools.

Ideally you’re drawn to unusual details, with a hearty appetite for research (looking for a gem in a newspaper archive, getting curious about exceptions, and overlooked people, ideas, and institutions).

You think it feels good to write and revise collaboratively. You meet deadlines, and independently push your work forward in between edits. When you don’t know something, you’re comfortable admitting it. When you need help, you’re comfortable asking for it. You care deeply about facts and getting them right, and fact check yourself (even when you feel sure). When you approach stories and subjects, you’re a good listener. You’re open-minded, and interested in nuance and ambiguity.

Because we’re a small team, you must excel at collaborating, and be ready to help with all aspects of thriving podcasts, beyond direct production.

Rockstar Dundee is on the lookout for a talented Audio Designer who possesses a passion for innovative interactive sound production. This is a full-time permanent position based out of Rockstar's unique game development studio in Dundee.

WHAT WE DO
  • The Rockstar audio design team is responsible for designing, recording, editing, and implementing the SFX for all Rockstar titles.
  • We're committed to creating deeply immersive interactive audio, pushing the sonic boundaries of what's possible in our medium.
RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Creation and implementation of in-game sound effects – from raw wave asset creation through to tuning in-game behaviour and mixing, using a combination of commercial and in-house tools.
  • Working closely with audio programmers to design and then refine interactive audio systems.
  • Working with mission designers to understand, create, and implement audio.
  • Scheduling and tracking of their own work, and co-ordinating their work with other members of the audio team.
  • Mentoring and development of junior audio designers.
  • Assisting with preparation, execution, and editing of recording sessions e.g. vehicle engines, foley, ambience.
QUALIFICATIONS
  • 2+ years experience in game audio design (AAA experience preferred).
SKILLS
  • Excellent creative audio design skills.
  • Excellent critical listening skills.
  • Ability to create and tune extremely high-quality audio assets from scratch, to a creative brief, sourcing assets from libraries or from custom recordings.
  • Commercial experience using audio middleware such as Wwise, Unreal Engine 5 Audio or similar for implementing interactive game audio.
  • Expert knowledge of popular DAW packages such as Pro Tools or REAPER.
  • Understanding of technical limitations and trade-offs, and an interest in exploring the potential of new audio technology to creatively solve problems.
  • Experience creating interactive audio that utilises complex real-time modulation sources.
  • Understanding of environmental acoustic modelling, and ability to create assets suitable for diverse open-world environments.
  • Knowledge of recording techniques and technologies – microphones, audio recording equipment, etc.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work with our large interdisciplinary team.
PLUSES
