What You Will Do…
  • Reporting to the Audio Director, you will create, optimize, and manage systems for sound implementation using Unreal Blueprints and Wwise

  • Create and implement sound assets

Base salary is just one part of the overall compensation at EA. The Spatial Audio product is closely linked to several aspects of the Wwise middleware. As an intern, you will be able to contribute to several projects. This position is based in our office in San Diego. The salary range for this position is $70,000 to $115,000 annually, & stock options.

Summary

This Sound Effects Designer position is responsible for the creation of sound effects (SFX) and music for the project. Initially, sound effects will be generated entirely by the candidate, but later one, third-party solutions may be pursued if scale is needed, and music can be sourced to the most appropriate vendor. The candidate will also work directly with programmers and designers to implement sound mechanisms needed for playback, data structures, and will be instrumental (with the Game Director) to fulfill the desired soundscape for the project. To be clear, however, we are looking for a creative person that can create original sound effects at a “Hollywood” level of richness and depth.

The ideal candidate will have experience creating sound effects for large projects and a background in sound engineering or music composition. Additionally, a candidate with a BA in a pertinent field is appreciated.

Sound asset portfolios must be presented for review before the interview is scheduled.

Essential Job Functions
  • Work with the Game Director to create sound effects for all aspects of the game, from combat to ambient world effects to UI, vehicles, creature effects, and more.
  • Either compose or coordinate with a composer to create music tracks for the game, coordinating with engineering on ways to trigger the tracks and provide the proper ambience for the game.
  • Coordinate with engineering on how best to present the SFX and music to players and design such systems with the Game Director.
  • Assist in integrating sounds into the game.
Knowledge/Skill/Ability Requirements
  • Experience level: 2 to 6 years of experience in a similar role. Sound effects design for one, or preferably more, large game projects. Music composition skills are a plus.
  • Education level: College degree in Music, or other pertinent areas of expertise.
  • Expertise with WWise.
  • Fluent with Unity.
  • Ability to prioritize a variety of tasks in a manner that enables timely completion.
