Requirements:

  • 3 years of industry experience in a video game or post-production setting,
  • 1 shipped AAA title or equivalent film credits in a sound design role,

The Position:
We are looking for a Senior Audio Designer for our new unannounced IP project. This position includes both working with the creative audio vision, as well as design and implementation of assets. As a member of the sound team, you will enjoy working with many and varied parts of implementation and design, through our editors and scripting languages, as well as middleware solutions and standard audio editors. The Avalanche audio pipeline is design driven, so you will enjoy great freedom in your designs as you implement them all the way into the game.

As a Senior Sound Designer you will be part of a tight and highly motivated team that strives to create the best sound experiences possible in games. In addition to the  members of the audio department you will work side by side with game developers of all disciplines in order to realize the best possible open world game experience.

Qualified candidates must have a passion for audio, a feel for music and a solid grasp of theoretical concepts such as sonic perspective, layered textures and abstract vs. concrete sound design as well as more tangible concepts such as gain structure, and basic digital audio principals. Since responsibilities also include a certain amount of audio visionary and direction work, experience in creating and maintaining audio visions, as well as interfacing and directing composers and other audio outsourcing, is highly valued.

  • Highly motivated and good at communicating and working within cross-discipline teams
  • Ability to take and give direction for sound design
  • Good grasp of FMOD 
  • Fluent in common audio tools and software (Reaper, Cubase, ProTools, Soundforge, etc)
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Experience in creating and driving audio visions within projects
  • Ability to edit and navigate within XML and Python scripts

Silicon Audio Architect

Our chips will enable AR & VR devices where our real and virtual world will mix and match throughout the day. We believe the only way to achieve our goals is to look at the entire stack, from transistor, through architecture, to firmware, and algorithms.

Facebook is looking for a Silicon Audio Architect who will work with a world-class group of researchers and engineers. This ideal candidate will understand the full stack from Audio speaker/mic interfacing to algorithms and architecture down to silicon back end and qualification to ensure consistency from Architecture to Product. We are seeking a Silicon Audio Architect to drive a silicon design that includes functions such as render, spatialization, beam forming, noise cancellation and other compute.

Responsibilities:

  • Architect designs to surpass state of the art for metrics such as compute, bandwidth and power consumption.
  • Work across disciplines, brainstorm big ideas, work in new technology areas, juggle/coordinate multiple initiatives, drive a concept into a prototype and ultimately guide the transition into a high-volume consumer product.
  • Make tradeoffs between general purpose and custom compute mechanisms.
  • Model data-flows, create detailed cost/benefit analysis and estimate power consumption.
  • Perform architectural studies including selecting ASIC technologies, FPGA ASIC emulation, and other system topics such as interface approaches, etc.
  • Support FPGA/RTL engineers implementing such algorithms for real time evaluation or silicon integration and Silicon SoC Architects with integration, documentation and implementation.
  • Produce detailed documents and SystemC models matching the proposed ASIC implementation, and produce detailed tradeoff analyses for executive review and product roadmap decisions.
  • Travel both domestically and internationally.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of experience as a Digital Design Engineer, Silicon µArchitect, and Silicon Architect for production silicon.
  • 1+ years of experience with methods for partitioning a solution across hardware and software, digital, and other multi-disciplinary boundaries in a system solution.
  • 1+ years of experience evaluating architectural tradeoffs such as speed, performance, power, area.
  • 1+ years of experience employing scientific methods to debug, diagnose and drive the resolution of cross-disciplinary system issues.
  • BS EE/CS or equivalent experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Top down knowledge in high-level-model to HW mapping.
  • Knowledge of industry trends and disruptive technologies.

Audio Programmer

You can also work with one of our game teams to develop audio tools that empower creative storytelling techniques and deliver enjoyable experiences to our customers. You’ll collaborate with a team of broadly-skilled peers to make audio a powerful element in all current and future Valve products.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing new spatial audio technologies as part of the Steam Audio team
  • Making Steam Audio accessible to more developers by building integrations and plugins for game audio tools like Audiokinetic Wwise
  • Regularly shipping Steam Audio updates to thousands of developers and understanding the needs of its developer community
  • Developing audio tools and features as part of one of Valve’s game development teams
  • Testing, debugging, and assuring the functional quality of all audio in a given product
