Senior Sound Designer

Obsidian is looking for a creative and technical sound designer with the capability to design and implement assets, manage entire projects, and/or specialize in key audio systems.

Over the course of our 14 years in the industry, Obsidian has sold millions of units, won a ton of awards, and – above all – we’ve always put our players first in every decision we’ve made. Our titles require a unique audio landscape, and that’s where you come in. The Senior Sound Designer will work closely with the audio and development teams to plan, design, and integrate high quality, engaging sound effects from the conceptual stage all the way through to polished engine integration.

Requirements:
• 5+ years experience with multiple shipped AAA game titles
• Possesses expert sound design skills with the ability to design, record, create, implement, mix, and master high quality and deeply engaging interactive sounds for a wide variety of subject matters and styles at a quality bar above industry standards
• Constantly seeks ways to improve creative and technical processes, taking them to the next level through personal research and continued education
• Establishes clear creative intentions through research, references, and documentation
• Drives assigned tasks from concept to completion in a proactive manner, requiring minimal guidance or course correction
• Fosters a positive work environment through comradery across the team by being an exceptional team player with strong collaborative and communication skills

• Implement all types of sounds, music, and voice over using Wwise, Unity, and/or Unreal 4
• Design, propose, document, and/or prototype new audio features as required, driving forward all initiatives from concept through to completion in a transparent and timely manner
• Actively seek ways to improve audio tools and workflow pipelines
• Work closely with Audio Director and strike team leads to meet or exceed project goals
• Field record new assets and sound effects
• Edit and process VO and/or music
• Create and mix audio for cutscenes and marketing videos

Pluses:
• A bachelor’s degree in relevant studies such as audio engineering
• Post-production experience in other audio related fields such as television or film

Applicant must:
• Have worked professionally as a AAA sound designer for at least three years
• Have strong technical implementation skills using WWISE and UE4
• Experience using Protools, Audition, Reaper or other equivalent DAWs
• Have shipped at least two AAA titles

What the Audio Artist will do:
• Creating quality audio for video games

Director of Sound Design

The PlayStation Product Development Service Group (PDSG) works with some of the best developers on the planet to create compelling, award winning content that supports the vision of the development team. We are seeking an accomplished, seasoned Sound Director with a drive to create world-class audio experiences. The Sound team works with Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us), Santa Monica (God of War), San Diego (MLB), Bend (Days Gone), Kojima Productions (Death Stranding) and PlayStation Marketing to name a few and supports teams globally, when needed.

Responsibilities:
• Manage the sound, casting and dialog team to meet development team needs and to ensure productions are world class
• Manage sound group budget, both internal and game audio production budgets
• Work with development team to create audio schedules, milestones, and creative direction that support the game
• Work closely with the Audio Tools and Technology team to develop new, compelling features to push the envelope
• Manage implementation of assets directly into the game engine and collaborate on the final game mix
• Facilitate clear and concise communication between sound and other game development disciplines
• Work closely with the game development studios to understand their vision and direction in creating a compelling audio that supports the narrative for the title
• Oversight on deliverables and workflow process of sound and dialog team with/ goal of driving excellence

Qualifications:
• At least 7 years professional experience creating audio for interactive games, including multiple shipped AAA titles
• At least 5 years working as a leader in the field of audio
• Budget development and management experience
• Experience as a lead or Director with proven leadership and mentoring skills
• Expertise of understanding of the entire audio process, sound effects, voice over, casting, music and audio system technology
• Proven and demonstrable qualifications in creating diverse and varying stylistic sound content
• Knowledge of game engine technology and audio middleware solutions
• VR audio experience
• Excellent cross-functional communication skills – communicate and interact effectively within a team environment, and work collaboratively
• Demonstrated ability to tell stories and define mood and brand through audio
