About the Position

DHX Studios – Vancouver is seeking an experienced Sound Editor to join our team. The Sound Editor works under the supervision of the sound supervisor to create and edit sound effects that meet the expectations of the sound supervisor, series director, and/or the creators of the show. This person will work in collaboration with the sound team to edit sound, foley, and dialogue for episodic television.

Responsibilities

  • Edit dialogue and assess original production sound tracks for the clearest reading of dialogue and correct imperfections such as clicks, pops and lip smacks
  • Edit foley and prepare for mix
  • Spot with directors and meet their requirements for sound effects edits on time for delivery to the stage
  • Prepare the mix sessions on the stage for mix day
  • Understand deliverables and coordinate with the post department to make sure their needs are met
  • Convert audio recordings into digital formats for editing or archiving
  • Assemble, operate and maintain technical equipment
  • Set up and test operating equipment, adjust microphones
  • Monitor working condition of all sound equipment and alert sound department head of repairs that may be needed
  • Ensure that all mix sessions are backed up and properly archived
  • Coordinate with post production department to make sure final sound delivery deadlines are met
  • Anticipate, communicate and troubleshoot any creative or technical issues with assistance from key stakeholders
  • Work collaboratively in a team environment
  • Actively participate in meetings by offering thoughts and ideas
  • Assist with and complete assignments
  • Keep current on sound techniques and technology
  • Recommend any team training needs to the sound supervisor
  • Carry out duties in a professional and positive manner
  • Be a positive and creative force on the team

Qualifications

  • At least four years of sound editing experience
  • Pro-Tools knowledge a MUST
  • Animation experience is considered an asset
  • Good technical knowledge of sound recording equipment is essential
  • Excellent hearing and a good sense of timing are required, along with patience and stamina for working long hours
  • Must be computer literate and have a good working knowledge of sound recording, playback, editing and mixing equipment, as well as experience with the various soundtrack delivery systems
  • Strong understanding of post sound procedures, production and workflow
  • Able to take direction, collaborate, and be a team player
  • Able to communicate in a professional and positive manner
  • Able to communicate creative and technical thoughts and ideas
  • Able to multitask, prioritize and manage time efficiently
  • Able to work alone and collaboratively, often with multiple tasks and under deadline pressure
  • Encourage feedback and new initiatives
  • Must be open to direction and able to embrace change
