As a Sound designer, you will be working on gameplay for our new free-to-play multiplayer, Sci-Fi shooter game. You will be working in close collaboration with your audio teammates and other production teams to identify, prototype and implement solutions, that make our games audio truly outstanding, like nothing that has been heard before!

Reports to

This role will report to the Audio Director.

What will you do?
  • Set up audio subsystems and populate with custom designed sound effects using in-house tools and middleware
  • Implement audio events using in-house tools and middleware
  • Produce top quality sound effects by using synthesis, recordings, and other sources
  • Ensure that Audio is top quality and works as intended
  • Constantly improve the overall game’s sound
  • Manage an in-house audio library
  • Design and implement aural experiences for games and media
  • Take your part in casting and recording voiceover artists
  • Collaborate between teams to deliver high quality audio features
What are we looking for?
  • Some experience in the gaming industry as a Sound Designer
  • Have worked on at least 1 shipped title as a Sound Designer
  • Deep knowledge of your beloved DAW, plugins, sound libraries
  • Experience working with Unreal Engine
  • Strong sense of style and deep understanding of gameplay audio
  • Strong technical sound design skills in coding / blueprinting
What additional skills will help you stand out?
  • Wwise/Fmod/audio middleware
  • Music Composition (This role will not include Music composition among your tasks)
  • Basic understanding of programming/scripting
  • Experience recording or directing voiceovers is a strong plus

Job description

The Technology Engineering for Devices (TED) Audio System Engineering Team is looking for an experienced Audio Architect to drive audio development for the next generation of Meta devices. Successful candidates will be comfortable leading through domain experts, influencing within TED Audio and cross-functionally to ensure the products’ audio performance is greater than the sum of its subsystems without direct ownership of any subsystem. We are looking for a meaningful depth in all aspects of audio system development for consumer electronics – from early proof-of-concept technologies, feature trade-offs at device level, product development and testing challenges, through to production readiness. Our culture demands a data driven development process, combining objective measurements with perceptual audio evaluation to guide trade-offs with a focus on customer experience. The best fit for the role will communicate effectively at all levels, both representing and challenging TED Audio and cross-functional teams while relating customer experience with quantitative and qualitative data, taking a hard stance on audio experience and build quality for Meta products. The Audio Architect will drive engineering excellence that engages domain expertise at appropriate times, optimizing the audio teams’ meeting load.

Audio Architect Responsibilities
  • First stop for audio HW alignment and decisions, including relevant audio partners as required
  • Drive audio needs across all levels, connecting TED Audio and cross-functional partners
  • Own product level trade off decisions in collaboration with system/audio PM
  • Assist development team with audio system context and technical challenges
  • Understand when to dive deep, and when to rely on domain expertise (system vs subsystem mindset)
  • Own acoustic & audio system level hardware decision-making process during development
  • Alignment and balance of capture, render, and thermal requirements with existing and SOTA audio algorithms.
  • Ensure seamless co-development of audio sub-systems
  • Collaborate closely with NTI, pulling technology advances to specific product intercept
  • Ensure all audio HW targets are relevant, developed, consolidated, and validated
  • Understand and communicate cost / risk / quality vs. customer benefit of device KPIs
Minimum Qualifications

Prior experience with Meta can be considered to supplement an applicant’s prior years of experience or types of prior experience to meet the minimum qualifications of the position.

  • Bachelor’s in Acoustics, Physics, EE, ME, or similar.
  • 10+ years of experience focused around system design, influencing cross-functional teams and leadership for the improvement of the system.
  • Proven track record of partnering effectively to guide complex engineering challenges
  • Proven track record of taking projects from concept to production in a lead / architect role
  • Experience in transducer design (speakers, microphone, MEM's, etc) and acoustic test development (lab, factory)
  • Experience with microphone array development, trade-offs between HW performance and algorithm performance.
  • Demonstrated experience driving project decision making, influencing behaviors of project teams, and resolve conflicts.
  • Proven understanding of audio architecture, design, optimization, testing, FACA.
  • Knowledge of acoustic system development, utilizing tools such as: – Acoustic Simulation LEM/BEM/FEM (acoustic, magnetic, multiphysics) – MATLAB (design, testing, algorithm prototyping, etc). – Max MSP (algorithm and audio chain prototyping, demo's). – 3D modeling (Nx, SolidWorks, etc).
Preferred Qualifications
  • 10+ years of experience focused around audio system design in consumer electronics
  • 5+ years demonstrated experience in a lead / architect capacity, with high quality examples of existing products

Bit Reactor is looking for a Senior Audio Designer to join our audio team and help us bring our vision for a Star Wars strategy game to life. You will act as primary content creator, working with the Audio Lead to create and implement audio assets for the game. We’re looking for a talented, organized, self-motivated and empathetic person to join and help grow our team.

Responsibilities:
  • Design and implement high quality audio assets across all aspects of the game.
  • Collaborate with the Audio Lead to help prove out audio systems and take audio features from concept to final.
  • Help set the quality bar for audio assets in the game, as well as establish design and mix practices that achieve the project’s audio pillars.
  • Collaborate proactively with other disciplines, including Animation, Visual Effects, and Narrative, to find ways that audio can contribute and enhance a particular asset.
  • Collaborate with the User Experience team to design sounds and implementations that achieve our goals of robust player feedback and “tutorial-through-sound”.
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and help solve Audio bugs/issues that appear throughout development.
  • Assist with game mixing and aid in development and refinement of audio pipelines and tools.
Qualifications:
  • 5+ years of AAA audio design and implementation experience.
  • 1+ shipped AAA titles on PC and/or Consoles in a senior role
  • Strong knowledge of game sound design principles and mix practices
  • Experience using Audiokinetic’s Wwise editor and profiler, having shipped a game using it.
  • Experience designing and mixing audio content across most content spaces, including character work, User Interface audio, environments, dialogue, etc…
  • Ability to work proactively and independently, and able to solve complex audio challenges.
  • Strong implementation skills in the audio engine, as well as in visual scripting tools like UE4/5 Blueprint
  • Strong organizational and communication skills.
