Responsibilities
  • Work closely with the Audio Director on a varied range of systems and features to create and implement immersive and compelling audio
  • Record, create and design high quality sound effects
  • Collaborate with all other disciplines such as game design and animation
  • Regularly review new content with the Audio Director, to ensure quality and vision for the project
  • Help maintain and contribute to the in-house sound effects library
  • Efficiently sound design and tracklay for concept videos or new features
  • Explore ways to improve existing assets and features to a very high standard
Essential Skills
  • Previous experience of working as an audio designer; creating audio for games at a developer or publisher for at least one development cycle
  • A good knowledge of audio software such as Pro Tools, Reaper, Sound Forge and various plug-ins
  • Experience using Unreal Engine
  • An good ear for detail and methodical in your approach of tasks
  • A noticeable passion for video games, latest trends and how they sound
  • Great communication, with strong listening and interpretation skills
  • Proficient in creating sound to picture, with accurate placement and arrangement
Desirable Skills
  • Comfortable with Unreal Blueprints and implementing audio within Unreal
  • Field recording experience and knowledge of recording techniques and microphones
  • Musical ability or composition experience
  • Knowledge and experience using audio Middleware such as Wwise, Fmod, etc.

We are seeking a Technical Sound Designer who is an experienced game audio implementer with a strong mind for systemic thinking. You are excited about creating practical applications that turn aesthetic ideas into reality.

WHO YOU ARE:

WHAT YOU WILL DO:

  • Set up and stub in placeholder audio content.

  • Prototype audio systems using blueprint.

  • Mark up and optimize audio content.

  • Troubleshooting audio issues and bugs.

  • Scripts audio playback sequences incorporating sound design, music and voice.

  • Provides technical support for sound designers across multiple games.

  • Maintains technical documentation guidelines and pipelines practices.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Foundational knowledge of audio implementation principles, signal processing, and audio programming is important. Technical Sound Designers should have skills in audio tools like Pro Tools, Reaper, or Nuendo, and audio middleware tools like FMOD and Wwise. Proficiency in programming languages like C++, Python, and JavaScript is also beneficial.

  • Strong interest in the fields of sound design, music composition, and voice-over production.

  • Ability to build productive internal/external working relationships.

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATONS:
  • Preferred experience working with large, cross-discipline teams within AAA Video Games.
  • Preferred experience shipping software on multiple platforms.

Senior Technical Sound Designer

We are looking for an experienced, creative, and highly-motivated Sr. Technical Sound Designer to join us here at Gravity Well. The Sr. Tech Sound Designer coordinates and completes tasks related to technical audio implementation, scripting, and audio pipeline efficiency utilizing Unreal Engine and Wwise to improve the overall quality and audio immersion in our games.

What You'll Do:
  • Conceptualize, prototype, build, and maintain effective audio systems that support the experiential and narrative pillars of our game.
  • Establishes and documents best practices for technical audio workflows for implementation across the studio.
  • Write detailed specs for tools needed for the audio department.
  • Identifies, investigates, and oversees the resolution of technical sound effect bugs during all stages of production.
  • Conceptualizes, creates, and implements unique sound effects that match the style and tone for the game.
  • Designing, implementing, and maintaining interactive music systems.
  • Problem-solve and devise creative solutions to complex challenges that can arise within interactive audio.
  • Able to perform advanced scripting using visual scripting tools.
Ideally You'll Have:
  • Expertise with Unreal Engine (including Blueprint), Wwise, and other industry-standard audio technologies.
  • Advanced, in-depth experience with Wwise and Audio Plug-Ins is a must.
  • Proficient with multitrack project mixing software/hardware and session set-up (Nuendo and Reaper experience preferred).
  • Experience with HDR (high dynamic range) mixing techniques.
  • Proficient with mixing stereo and surround sound formats.
  • Experience with Python, Lua, C++ or visual scripting languages (aka blueprints) a plus.
  • Emphasis in sound effect and dialogue mixing and post-production work.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills required.

  • The base pay for this role is $125,000 to $175,000 USD per year and is applicable to US-based employees only. We pay fairly across our global team regardless of your location, but it will differ based on factors such as experience, qualifications, etc.
