Responsibilities
  • Music System Design – Influences overall project strategy as it relates to the music system design. Can present music system design vision and progress to external and internal leadership teams.
  • Music Editing – Editing music and making assets that conform to the music system design.
  • Music Implementation – Directs implementation methods and strategies across multiple projects with music designers at multiple locations. Involved in discussions and influences music implementation strategies and technology development across PlayStation Studios.

  • Tools & Technical Proficiency – Works across PlayStation Studios to influence tools and systems. Actively engages with music industry and education on PlayStation Studios's behalf.
  • Communication – Represents CA Music within the studio leadership structure. Seeks out new ideas and discoveries within the music design discipline and communicates these to music team on a regular basis. Effectively manages reviews & planning meetings, achieves communication excellence in these settings.
  • Score Production – Manages recording sessions and communication with the composer and creative director.
  • Recording & Production – Can manage budget planning and legal approval processes around recording sessions and externally sourced assets. Contributes to the PlayStation Studios global audio community by sharing assets, techniques and planning processes. Mentors other music design staff in high-level planning and execution for recording sessions and vendor negotiations.
  • Process & Planning – Defines and establishes planning best practices to follow once in production. Forms good working relationships with senior management and external partners. Works collaboratively with leaders from other groups outside the music team such as Marketing or Tools & Tech.
Education & Experience
  • Expert knowledge of commonly used interactive audio tools and digital audio workstations, particularly Wwise and Pro Tools.
  • Thorough understanding of various techniques for implementing game audio and associated technical demands.
  • Minimum five years of industry experience in video game music production with multiple published titles.
  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience/skillset.
Skills
  • Comprehensive understanding of project schedules and milestone documentation.
  • Excellent organisational and prioritisation skills, attention to detail, and ability to multi-task and process knowledge.
  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Google Sheets, Microsoft Office, bug tracking databases.

As a Technical Sound Designer, you will be responsible for implementing all types of audio content for our game projects. You will also be expected to support our adaptive audio systems and improve our audio tools, pipelines and workflows. In this role you will work with all departments to build and help define how our game projects should sound like.

How your day to day will look like:
  • Implementing all types of audio content by utilising inhouse audio tools and middleware or programming
  • Defining and owning the technical sound design and execution plans across all game projects (including setup, structure, organisation, and optimisation)
  • Collaborating with the audio team and central tech to develop and refine our adaptive audio systems, tools and implementation pipelines
  • Defining, applying, and educating best practices of technical audio workflows and systems
  • Providing technical development support across all game projects
  • Fix audio bugs and issues in game projects when required
Who we think would do great at this role has:
  • Good experience in game audio development.
  • Experience in mobile games is a big plus
  • Good understanding of overall audio content creation and workflow
  • Good knowledge and knowhow of game engines such as Unity and Unreal
  • Good understanding of C# or other relevant programming skills
  • Good knowledge and knowhow of common audio middlewares (Wwise, FMOD, Master Audio etc.)
