At Penguin Random House Audio, the UK’s leading audiobook publisher, we are dedicated to making the very best audiobooks. Working with exceptional acting talent, producers and sound editors in our state-of-the-art studios, we want to push the boundaries of creativity in audiobook production. That can mean 40 actors voicing 750+ characters over complex worlds of sound design and epic music for our adaptations of 2000AD comics; fusing a Max Richter score with hours of original field recordings for Charlie Mackesy’s The Boy, the Mole, the Fox and the Horse; or ditching the studio altogether and recreating a fictional true crime podcast with on-location witness interviews, subtle sound design and a tense original music score for Joseph Knox’s True Crime Story.

We have an exciting opportunity to join this fast-paced postproduction team as a Senior Sound Editor, responsible for setting, implementing and maintaining our high editing standards for in-house productions.

The Opportunity

Reporting into our Head of Audio Production, this role will play a lead role delivering high-quality and innovative audiobooks across Penguin Random House.

Day to day, you can expect to be:
  • Spending most of your time carefully and efficiently crafting our audio content to the highest standards
  • Turning around up to 75 audiobooks a year from raw to finished product – content will include anything from single voice crime thrillers to children’s picture book adaptations.
  • Cleaning and fine-tuning audio to create the perfect listening experience
  • Providing editing support to other teams around the business, for instance by editing for radio
  • Playing a mentoring and supportive role to our junior sound editor
What you’ll bring

We’d love to hear from you if you have experience of and are passionate about the art of audiobook editing!

You’ll have:
  • Experience in audiobook editing and mastering
  • Understanding of the latest digital audio techniques and styles to bring creativity and innovation to the team

  • High attention to detail and a meticulous approach to your work

If you’d like to help to shape the future of audiobooks, the fastest-growing area of publishing, please apply to us with a CV and cover letter by the end of the day on Thursday 6th October.
