Audio Design Intern

Insomniac Games is looking for an audio intern who is passionate about producing audio for games. We are looking for someone who is interested in pursuing a career in game audio and who wants to learn all aspects of what it takes to create, edit, implement, and fine tune audio during the development process, and to be mentored by senior members of our talented Audio team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:

This intern’s responsibilities will include sound effect design and creation, assistance with dialogue editing and processing, stub dialogue recording and preparation, sound effect material mapping, attachment of sound effects to animations using our proprietary tools, and sound effect scripting in Wwise and internal tools.

Internship Qualifications:
  • Six to twelve months related experience and/or training, or students enrolled at a college or university, with an emphasis on audio production, recording or engineering, preferably within the game development field.
  • Master students welcome to apply.
  • We will also consider recent graduates – within 12 months of graduation, when the internship begins
  • Candidates should be energetic, self-motivated, creative, responsible, have a passion for video games, and an understanding of what makes them fun (or not)
  • Understanding of signal flow, audio production, editing and mastering is required.
  • Familiarity with audio production and editing software such as Pro Tools or Sound Forge is required.
  • Additional experience with field recording and microphone setups, dialogue editing, sound effect creation and editing, and post-processing preferred.
  • Understanding and experience with Wwise or other middleware solutions is strongly preferred.
Internship Details:
  • This is a paid, full-time internship.
  • The student must be available to intern 5 days per week for approximately 40 hours a week.
  • The duration of internship is flexible, but we expect at least an 8-week commitment from our interns.
  • This role is based in Burbank, California, Durham, North Carolina, or remote.
Sound Designer

Job description

As a Sound Designer you will be responsible for designing and implementing a wide variety of audio assets. You will work alongside other sound designers and audio programmers in order to realise and execute the vision for our games. Having a keen interest in first person shooters is desirable. All candidates must be based in and have the right to work in the UK. At this time we are unable to offer any visa sponsorship.

  • Should be able to demonstrate a high level of skill when designing unique sound effects.
  • Passionate about audio and games, with a well- developed ear for game audio

  • Comfortable within game engines such as Unreal Engine.
  • Proficient with DAWs (Reaper strongly preferred).
  • Wide knowledge of audio plugins such as Fabfilter, Waves, SoundToys, RX etc.
  • Great communication skills; a willingness to learn and share knowledge, and able to act upon and give constructive feedback
  • Developed at least one video game title from concept to completion.
  • Assertive and able to work independently.

We are seeking someone with:
  • 3+ years experience in audio for games or 5+ years experience in a related field (studio work or film/television)

  • Self-motivation and self-reliance; ability to research and learn new tools quickly
  • Excellent communications skills, and able to work within a team
  • Passion for creating 'dark and gritty' sounds
